Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

One must figure out their life- what they want to do with the limited time they have here, what is their purpose, what is the value they can add to others’ lives, what is the change only they can bring, blah blah blah.

Bull ******* shit!

Say I do. I figure out what I am good at, what I can do to fend for myself, what change I can drive, how I can impact others’ lives, and I spend my life doing that. What then? I die! And everything goes to poof.

Do you know the name of the dinosaur who died last? Do you know the bravest Triceratops that ever was? Which T Rex had the most interesting life? Did the Velociraptor change the way we look at all dinosaurs?

In a million years, how much would it matter what legacy I left behind. What product I built, what company I helped found. What tech I invented, what invention I patented.

In a million years, we would all be dead! And all our legacy, ancient history.

I got to watching the movie Palm Springs yesterday wherein the protagonists get stuck in an infinite time loop situation.

And it got me thinking- what would you do if you had to live the same day over and over? If everything reset at the end of each day. If everything you did today was forgotten the next morning. If nobody, but you, remembered anything.

You would simultaneously have both infinite and limited time.

Your environment would become irrelevant. All your accomplishments, achievements, everything would become moot. YOU, and you alone would matter.

Maybe, just maybe, you could try to make each of your days different from the other. You could spend your time on things that made you happy, in ways that made you happy. You could find things that give you joy, and be with people you love.

And if you really look at it, aren’t our lives the same! Except that our time is only limited.

Doesn’t matter if I get the highest grades, if I buy the fastest car, if I change the world. The only purpose, the one true purpose, as Bob Marley would say, is to be happy. And where that comes from could be anything.
